Event of the Week: Gay and Lesbian Pride Run

Hello Hello,

Come check out this week's event. There will be many festivities over the course of the weekend. I will be watching gay pride/and other interesting artists at the Coney Island mermaid parade on Sat, but for those of you who want to race:

What: Annual Gay and Lesbian Pride 5 mile run
When: Saturday, June 20th (not sure why nyrr has june 23, that's a tues)
Time: 9am
Start Location:East Drive north of 99th st (central park, nyc)

Runner of the Week: Constance Korol

Name: Constance Korol
Location:Syosset, NY

Races She's Training for:Just finished the NYRR Mini Marathon for Women, which is a special race and was glad to be a part of the crowd who included Deena Kastor,Catherine Ndereba and 4300 other women. Currently training for the
NYRR NYC 1/2 Marathon which will be my 3rd time running the race. My goal is to tweet during the race, but I tried this running 6 miles with my iphone in hand and
added 3 min to my normal finish time. :( Local events help me train
like the LIRRC Wednesday Night Summer Series as well
as keeping up with my 2 year old Jack Russell.
Favorite Running Moment: Running my first marathon, the 2001 NYC
Marathon with my "husband to be" Michael, a 50K guy who has also
completed so many marathons he lost count. Michael trained and ran
with me the whole time, taking photos along the way. Most memorable
point was the finish, not only because of the accomplishment, but
Michael proposed to me at the finish line. :) Not only that, it was
incredibly emotional for me as a New Yorker as the race immediately
followed 9/11. The crowd cheering us on, is something I will never
forget.
Favorite mantra: Don't just watch things happen, make things happen

Item of the Week: Lilyette Active Motion Sportsbra

Hello again and sorry for the delay. This week's item of the week is for the well-endowed chicas that are looking for support while running. It is the
Lilyette "Active Motion" Underwire Sports Bra 30C-40DDD for mid level excercise
$38.00.
This item is similar to the CWRX but retails for about 40% less. It comes in black or white ( though it would be nicer if there was more of a color selection)
some features:
-Encased underwire features hidden wire channel for added support and midlevel wire channel to prevent wire poking at sides.
-Inner mesh lining and center gore-so it breathes!
-Side mesh features tension release and fold-over binding provides comfort.
-Wide elastic bottom, adds support-and it wicks moisture away!
-Triple back hook-and eye-closure-more support

One of the downsides of this item is that the care label says hand wash. Now this item is just polyester and spandex, no exotic contents there. So i'm thinking it could be thrown in the cold wash and left sitting out to dry. I tend to do that with alot of my athletic clothes (tech shirts/tights)anyways because the dryer is so hard on them and they dry relatively quick.

So, some questions for readers...

Has anyone tried this item or something similar?
Would the special care deter you from buying it if you thought it provided with the support you need at a fair cost?

Item of the Week: Hydration Pack

Hello!!

Since we're getting into warmer weather soon, we thought we'd pick a running accessory just for fun this week. I was in target and bought this item last weekend. I had been looking for a hydration pack for long runs but, at an affordable price (some packs can be in the 100s depending the brand and features). This one seemed perfect. It's by Nalgene and retails for about 40 dollars. You can click the link for an online store (unfortunately it's not sold at Target online, go figure)

Here are some of key features:

Fuel window for bladder level
Extra wide bladder port allows ease of insertion
Insulated bladder compartment
Ergonomic back panel with perforated foam for improved ventilation
Contoured mesh shoulder straps for comfort and breathability
Adjustable sternum strap
Light clip strap
Cargo compartment 184 cubic inches

The benefits that got me were:
1) the adjustable sternum strap ( i feel very secure wearing it that it won't move around)
2)the bladder is actually very easy to remove which is great for cleaning and/if you'd like to have more storage space in the pack.

What do you ladies think? How many of you use hydration packs/belts/etc?

I've been doing long runs for a few years now, and i'm just starting to realize the benefits of running hands free (sans water bottle :0)

Item of the Week: Spyder Tank

Hello Ladies,

Happy Wednesday! This week's item is a relative new comer to the women's sportswear arena. Designer Calvin Klein has created a line called CK Performance for women which features products suited for running,cycling,walking, and yoga. This line is currently available at Macy's department stores and online at essentialapparel.com. Click title for product link.


The spyder tank I found to be a good fit. It has a built-in sports bra and the body length was decent. This top comes in solid colors- light blue, charcoal, and black, as well as a funky geometric print(at Macy's stores) It retails for about 40 dollars. The criss cross strap design I thought was classy and elegant. The straps seemed to stay in place when worn, and there is little to no adjusting when putting the top on. I'm never a fan of items that look cute on the hanger, but, are a nightmare trying on. Now we would like to hear what you readers think.

Do think this would this be a good top for running? Why or why not?

A great volunteer opportunity for women coming up

We just wanted to pass along this excellent run/walk/volunteer opportunity to our readers. Both of us will be volunteering next saturday May 2, 2009 at the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for the Cure. Proceeds from this events will be going to fight women's cancers. You can register for the run/walk online by clicking the title of the post for the link.

Event of the Week:Lincoln Tunnel Challenge

What: 23rd annual Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K Fun/Walk
When: Sunday, April 26th, check on site for 2 start times depending on pace
Where:The NJ Transit Bus Parking Lot adjacent to the Lincoln Tunnel entrance in Weehawken, NJ, 500 Boulevard E. (New Yorkers can ride the FREE shuttle from NY's 41st St. between 8th & 9th avenues). Parking for the event is free.
Cost:25 dollars(includes a t-shirt)
online registration until April 22nd at midnight

Item of the Week: Fizz Tank

Hello Everyone! Our runner friend, Lara, gave us an idea for this week's item.
It is the Sugoi Fizz tank with built-in bra. She states this is an really awesome top to run in because the mesh panel back keeps her cool in the summer. It comes in 4 different colors and she says she owns 3 tops in this style. The top retails for around $49-55 dollars regular price.
